MEP/FP Engineering and Construction Administration

Palmetto Senior High School

SGM provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEPF) design and construction administration services for Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ modernization and expansion of Miami Palmetto Senior High School in Pinecrest, Florida. Designed by Zyscovich Architects, the 120,900-square-foot, multi-phase project transformed the 1950s-era campus with a new three-story main entrance and administration building, specialized vocational and technology laboratories, athletic courts and fields, parking facilities, and modern academic, arts, and dining environments.

The project introduced a dedicated performing and visual arts wing with 2-D and 3-D art studios, a photography lab, dance and gymnastics spaces, a music room, and a black box theater with an outdoor stage. A new central cafeteria, landscaped courtyard, and indoor-outdoor dining areas created a vibrant campus hub. The work also included extensive renovations and repairs to existing classroom buildings, science laboratories, the auditorium, and the media center.

SGM’s MEPF designs incorporated upgraded mechanical and electrical infrastructure, including a new central chiller plant, to improve energy efficiency, occupant comfort, life safety, and long-term system reliability. Throughout design and construction, SGM collaborated closely with the owner, architect, and contractor to coordinate new systems with existing facilities, minimize disruptions to active campus operations, and support delivery in accordance with the client’s schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
