The Orange Technical College Westside Campus is a new, state-of-the-art educational facility replacing the existing campus and relocating to a 37-acre greenfield site adjacent to Orange County Public Schools’ Ocoee High School and State Road 429. Strategically positioned along a major roadway, the campus is designed to serve as a visible community asset, promoting career-focused education and workforce development opportunities. The approximately 116,223-square-foot campus supports a wide range of programs, including building construction technology, carpentry, HVAC/refrigeration, welding, and apprenticeship training, as well as human services programs such as cosmetology, massage therapy, and veterinary assisting.
SGM Engineering provided comprehensive MEP/FP consulting engineering services for the project, including additional scope associated with an $8 million construction cost increase. Our services encompassed full system design for mechanical, electrical (power and lighting), plumbing, fire protection, communications, and fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, including Florida Building Code and NFPA standards. Mechanical design included detailed equipment selection, ventilation and pressurization strategies, energy code compliance, and full building automation system integration. Electrical design addressed power distribution, load calculations, emergency and standby systems, lighting design, and surge protection. Plumbing and fire protection systems were designed with full riser diagrams, equipment schedules, and code-compliant system layouts.
